About Give a Toss
Give a Toss helps people who care about their neighbourhood steward small public-facing assets - planters, little libraries, noticeboards, benches, and more - as Patches. Each Patch has a Keeper (and optionally co-stewards) who looks after it on the ground.
For neighbours
Scanning a QR code on a label or sign opens that Patch’s public page: what it is, where it is, and a short description, with optional photos. Anyone can report an issue (with a note, urgency, and photos) so the Keeper knows what needs attention.
If the Keeper allows it, signed-in neighbours with a verified email can become a co-Keeper and help steward the Patch from their dashboard. If a Patch is changing hands, someone can offer to take over - the Keeper can accept or decline.
The map shows Patches whose Keepers have chosen to list them there. A Patch can stay off the map and still work perfectly via its link or QR code.
For Keepers
After you create an account, you can add Patches with a name, category, description, location, and reference images. You control whether your Patch appears on the map and whether co-Keepers can join without an invite.
Your dashboard shows open and closed reports so you can triage issues neighbours raise and mark them resolved when you are done. You can share QR codes and printable assets (PNG, SVG, and PDF layouts) to put on physical labels or posters, or order a metal printed sign with your QR on it (see below).
You can archive a Patch when it is retired; the public page then shows a simple "wandered off" message instead of the full profile.
Pricing and supporting the site
Give a Toss is free to use. If you would like to help support the site, you can order a metal printed sign with your Patch’s QR code on it from your Patch page when you are signed in - we post it to you, and the purchase helps keep the project going. If you don’t want to purchase one, you can download and print your own for free.
